Vaping ban sends wrong message to smokers: doctor
More great stuff out of New Zealand today with Dr Stephen Palmer, Medical Officer of Health, Wellington, highlighting that councils that ban vaping could soon find themselves to be 'out of sync' with the Government.
This comes because as we pointed out yesterday, the NZ Government will soon be recommending that smokers switch from smoking cigarettes to taking up vaping.
Speaking of the council vaping bans, Dr Palmer said, "in a way, such bans would send the wrong message to smokers", in reference to councils including vaping alongside smoking bans in public places. Dr Palmer continues, "Unfortunately if councils take this further step then it may be out of sync with the national aim for vaping to be a safe and viable option for smokers, and in particular, for smokers in high prevalence communities."
Unfortunately for us here in Australia, no such mature conversations can happen because the Australian government would rather Aussies die from smoking than provide effective options to quit.
